What requirements must be met?

  • Austrian citizenship or legal equivalence

  • Main residence in the subsidised property

  • Urgent housing need

  • Subsidised living space no larger than 150 m² (or 200 m² for structurally separate flats in apartment blocks)

  • Monthly net income below the limits (see income limits)

The state of Vorarlberg sets an upper limit for monthly net income in order to receive the state housing subsidy.

The state of Vorarlberg sets maximum limits for monthly net income in order to receive the state housing subsidy. You can easily calculate these yourself by deducting your annual gross income from your annual payslip or income tax assessment notice and deducting social security contributions and income tax. Divide the resulting annual net income by 12 to obtain the monthly net income. The following limits must not be exceeded to qualify for the subsidy:

  • 1 person: 4,000 euros

  • 2 persons: 7,000 euros

  • 3 persons or more: 8,250 euros

Exceeding these limits is not an exclusion criterion. The amount of the subsidy merely changes: for every euro by which the limit is exceeded, 5% is deducted from the subsidy amount.

How do you repay your housing subsidy?

Your home is subsidised in the form of a low-interest loan over a repayment period of 35 years. You can choose between a fixed interest rate of 1.25 % or a variable interest rate of 0.25 % to 1.50 %. These attractive interest rate options make residential construction financing in Vorarlberg particularly attractive compared to conventional bank loans.

For parents, the child subsidy offers additional financial support: over a maximum period of two years, you receive a monthly subsidy of € 50 per child; this increases to € 75 for multiple births.
